In the space race to the moon in the ’50s, the sense of outer space expanding was underpinned by a domestic sphere anchored around the television set. Women were grounded in this domestic setting, while men could lift off to explore outer space. It took several decades for women to be sent to space on equal terms.
The first woman to go to the moon in a fiction film was in a Fritz Lang’s Woman in the Moon (1929). As soon as she steps out of the space ship and onto the moon, she sets up her camera and begins to film. But his has yet to happen. Till this day, no woman has set foot on the moon. Despite the tremendous leap in space science and travels, the distance between the reality of space science and science fiction remains fascinating. In this work, science fiction films and TV series combine with real instructions to today’s astronauts who spend hours painstakingly turning bolts to repair very sophisticated space stations. Technical Specs: Video Loop, 22’2’’, Color, Stereo sound, 4:3, HR digital file
